On Day 13, we’re going to stray away from food, glorious food! Did you know that Gumtree in 2015 found that 71% of Australians would receive unwanted gifts for Christmas – this equates to 20.6 million gifts! At that time, the total sales of gifts over Christmas were valued at $630 million Australian dollars. Rather than hitting up the old combination of socks, jocks and chocolates, why not consider making a shift towards exploring the wonderful world of handcrafted presents this Christmas?
In 2019, there are so many talented artists and creatives in the Brisbane community that have been able to promote their craft and have the ability to connect with the public to showcase their wares. Instead of browsing through online platforms, you can gather your crew or family and head on out to events that also have some fresh produce, activities for the kids and a great line-up of food trucks for a feed. There actually have already been quite a few Christmas themed markets occurring across Brisbane, even as early as October…
However, there’s still a couple of events left before December 25th so that you can find something created locally. Today we’re going to highlight some locations featuring handcrafted presents at events occurring over the next few weeks, from pottery to vintage clothing, accessories and cosmetics. There’s something for everyone at all of these places! If you’re interested in crafting your own handmade cosmetics, we will be doing a feature next week on locations to source ingredients locally and some recipes that we’ve made in the past for family and friends.
